For many buildings, lighting uses up more energy than anything else. But substantial savings can be made in this area by designing and installing the right units and controls.
Lighting is a major energy consumer in buildings. It is estimated energy consumption for commercial lighting accounted for 47.9TWh of electricity in 2005. Substantial energy savings are available through use of the most efficient equipment. Substitution of standard units by high efficiency lighting units can typically generate savings of between 20% and 70%.
Rather than individual products being listed, businesses can see the criteria for each lighting category and liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure the products they are purchasing meet the criteria. Manufacturers should be able to advise businesses who want to invest in equipment that’s eligible for an Enhanced Capital Allowance (ECA).
